Ren was in the student lounge, sitting in her favorite armchair, her iPod playing Panic! At The Disco. She lay across the chair, her back against one arm and her long legs hanging over the other. This was her favorite place in the whole school. She had claimed this chairs in since the first day of school. Ever since, no one even bothered sitting there- they knew they would be thrown out of the chair very quickly. As Ren bobbed along with "Camisado", she worked on her Transfiguration homework. With a sigh, she slammed the book shut. God, this stuff was too confusing. Plus, being nearly 4 years behind her classmates was both humiliating and frustrating. What she would give for some help right about now.

Miyoko walked the halls of the Academy. She hadn't been here very long, so she was doing a little bit of exploring. She admired the decorations and the huge wooden doors. She was right under a huge arch staring up at it, when she heard someone frustratingly slam a book shut. She walked around the corner and saw a girl about her age there. She smiled, trying to be friendly. She didn't know anyone here yet, and was open to meet anyone. She walked over to the girl who was practically hanging off the side of a chair. "Hello, I Miyoko," She spoke in her broken English. She didn't want to say much else. She could barely manage a sentence without making a fool of herself.

Ren looked up as a voice cut through her music, which had now switched to Behind the Sea. She quickly paused the song and smiled up at the girl who stood by her chair. Ren noticed the not quite correct grammar and the girl's accent, and concluded that she was foreign. Well, hey, Ren certainly didn't care. She barely knew anyone here, and very few people on a personal level. So, thinking what the hell, she smiled brightly, and pulled the earbuds out of her ears. "Hi, I'm Renata. Nice to meet you. Are you new here?"

Miyoko watched the girl take out the headphones and felt slightly embarrassed. She hadn't noticed that she was listening to music before, the earbuds had been hidden by her hair. Miyoko nodded when the girl asked if she was new. "I just got here day before yesterday," She replied. "I know not anyone yet."

Ren smiled. "Well, welcome to Forks Academy. Don't worry, this place isn't as scary as it seems. Whatever lies you've heard about the seventh years are all completely true. Don't use the 2ndstep on the stairs going up to the Astronomy Tower, it likes to grab your feet. The library is actually not a quiet place to work. If you want that I suggest the grounds. But other than that, this place is great. And I'm glad to be the first person you've met." Ren flashed her wide smile. These were all the things she wished she had known when she started Forks Academy. She hoped she didn't seem like she was a crazy chatterbox, cause most of the time she wasn't. It was just nice to meet someone who was even more new, lost and confused that she was. "Anything else you wanna know?"

Miyoko listened intently to every word, making sure she understood it. She got most of it, but the girl spoke a little to quickly for Miyoko to understand all of it. She got the bit about the 2nd stair and something about seventh years. But instead of asking her to repeat it and look like a fool, she just nodded and smiled like she knew what Renata was saying. She was glad that Renata was being so nice to her. Sometimes people just looked at her like she was a freak and ignored her. "I do not think so..." She said, then, not wanting to look lost later, she added, "Maybe could show me where my class rooms are?"

Ren watched Miyoko carefully. "You didn't get any of that, did you?" She asked with a laugh. "Sorry, that's my fault. I know I'm a fast talker, plus I've got a stupid Seattle accent, so you probably can't understand a word I'm saying. I'll try to slow down." She said, blushing. "Sure, I'd be glad to show you where your classes are. can I see your schedule so I know where to take you?" Ren was very proud of herself. She had only gotten lost once, on the first day, and that was because a portrait had given her faulty directions.

Miyoko also blushed, looking embarrassed that Renata had known that she didn't understand what she said before. "Thank you," Miyoko was careful to pronounce the words correctly, so she spoke a little more slowly. When Renata asked to see her schedule, Miyoko undid the clasps on her new school bag and pulled out the glossy piece of paper that had her classes and rooms and times on it. She smiled and handed it to Renata. "Here go, Renta."

Ren smiled and took the schedule. "It's Renata," she said softly. Not like it mattered much, she just thought Miyoko should know. Ren scanned the schedule, a smile crossing her face. "Hey, you're in a bunch of my classes! You've got the same Potions hour as me, and Transfiguration, um, and Astronomy." She handed her the paper. "Okay, so Astronomy is in the tower, which is just down the hall and up the stairs," she said, leading Miyoko out into the hall. "Transfiguration and Potions are both in the call room building, which is just across the lawn, and they're both in the back of the building. I can show you there tomorrow for class."

Miyoko bit her lip, "So sorry, Re-na-ta," She made sure she pronounced ever syllable. Then she smiled. She was glad that she was in so many of Renta's classes. She was so much nicer than all of the other people she met here other than Kareem. She followed Renata while she explained where everything was. "Thank you, not many people so nice as you here," Miyoko smiled gratefully.

"Ah, I know what you mean," Renata said, leading Miyoko down another hallway towards the Charms classroom. Ha, Professor Lacauna was pretty funny. He didn't seem like a professor at all, but who was she to judge? "I'm new here myself, and I tend to be the butt of everyone's jokes. Just cause I'm different..." she trailed off. "Well, I guess you know about that, too," she said softly.

Miyoko was confused. How was Renta different? She looked just like everyone else she'd seen here. "What you mean?" She asked. She hadn't heard anything about her from the other students. She'd heard some gossip, but nothing about her.

Ren sighed. "I different because...well, It's kinda hard to explain," she said softly. She wasn't sure how to tactfully put it, in a way that Miyoko would understand. "Um, so I'm from the La Push tribe, y'know the reservation down my the ocean." She ran her hand through her wild curls, staring out the window. "Well, there are legends about the La Push people...legends that are actually true. These legends...well, it's kind of a trait that's passed down..." Stalling, stalling, stalling. She'd have to tell her. Just blurt it on out. You might lose a friend opportunity, but...somehow she felt that Miyoko would accept her. "Basically, I'm a shape shifter. I can turn into a giant wolf whenever I want. Though it's usually when I'm angry. Yeah."

Miyoko's eyes widened. "Wow, really?" She smiled in a friendly way, "Th- That's amazing. I think I might like turn into a wolf when I angry. Could come in useful sometimes," She laughed. "There is nothing wrong with that, Ren-ta. Everyone different in some way." Miyoko wondered why she seemed so nervous and not forthcoming about it.

Ren's eyes went wide. Whoa, just like that Miyoko accepted her? "Fo shizzle? You're not gonna freak or anything?" She then realized Miyoko probably had no idea what she just said. "Sorry. Seriously? That doesn't, like...bother you or anything?" It was pretty incredible to find someone who thought it was normal-- let alone cool-- to turn into a gigantor wolf. "Yeah, it actually does," she said, referring to the usefulness. She almost laughed when Miyoko said everyone was different in some way. That seemed like such a weird understatement sort of thing. "I guess you're right."
