Autumn rapped her fingers impatiently against the counter of the check-out lane she was working in. In her mouth she held an already-covered-in-bite-marks number two pencil. Airily, she flicked a strand of hair from her face. This had to be the most boring job she had ever had. As the doors opened, she sighed. Another pair of backpackers, it looked like from their look of about to set off on a trip to the Rocky Mountains. "Excuse me, Miss? I don't think visitors are supposed to be behind the register." Autumn rolled her eyes. "Oh yeah...I'm just trying to rob the place." "Pardon me?" Idiots. "I was joking. I work here, see?" she flashed them her "Newton's" nametag. "I'm a resident of Forks." "But aren't people from Forks usually pale? Like, really pale? Because of the clouds, you know?" "I moved here from California, this summer. I think I know that I'm not from Forks. Now please move along into the store or I can kick you out." Why did people need to be so narrow-minded?

Ren skipped into Newton's, shaking the rain from her long hair. She needed a new pair of hiking boots. Her last pair had gotten trashed when she got ticked off while hanging out with Tris and the boys. They had been shredded, along with everything else. Not like she really cared all that much. They were a pack, and they had seen her post-phasing before, so no big deal. The loss of a great pair of hiking boots, on the other hand...she wound in and out of the aisles, until she found a nice pair that was within her budgetary confines. And they fit nice too. Score. Ren grabbed them and went up to the cash register. The girl working there looked almost as tan as Ren. It was kinda cool to see someone as tan as she was (who wasn't Kareem) outside of the rez. "Hey," she said, dropping the shoes on the counter. "Are you new around here?" She asked, out of curiosity.

Autumn looked up from the magazine laying on the counter at the tan girl in front of her. Nice shoe choice. She lazily scanned the item and pulled out the receipt. "Yup. New here. Just moved from California." she sighed, tapping her fingers against the counter as the printer of the cash register stalled. Stupid technology. Never works when you need it. she growled internally before whacking the register irritatedly. "Sometimes I feel like I might die out here. It's so cold and wet and blegh!" Autumn sighed, the register coming back to life and finishing the receipt. "Is there a tanning place nearby? I want to know how you got so tan, it's gorgeous! How could you do it out in Forks? Are you from Forks, or just stopping by, actually?" she changed her question about three times.

Ren sighed. To live in Cali would be awesome. "Cool. What's it like there? I've never been, but I've always wanted to go." The only trip Ren had been on was to Germany to see her dad. It had been possibly one of the top experiences of her life. That was the first and only time she had left the Forks-Seattle area. "Oh, god, I know what you mean. But don't worry, you get used to it. For me, since I've lived here so long, it's just a fact of life. I breath when it rains actually is the same as it rains when I breath here!" She said, playing off of an Alice in Wonderland quote. She watched the receipt print at snail speed, and looked around the shop. It was a quiet day, which was odd, seeing as it was a weekend. Natalaughed at the girl's stream of questions. "Okay, I have no idea about the tanning place, the tan is completely natural-- sorry-- and I've lived in Forks my whole life." She grinned. "Did I miss anything?"

"Sunny," Autumn replied smartly, knowing that 'sunny' was the only word that could describe it in a place like Forks. She missed being warm. "I hate the rain already," she moaned quietly, ripping the receipt from the register and handing it to the girl. "Dang...I can say 'goodbye' to my tan in a few months...unless I can get out of here," Autumn sighed. "Nope. Nothing missed. I'm Autumn, by the way. Great to meet you....hey! Do you goes to Forks High?" she inquired, an idea striking her.

Ren laughed shortly. "Well, anyplace is sunny compared to Forks. Hell, I bet the North Pole is freaking sunny compared to Forks, and they don't get any daylight!" She grinned, remembering how shocked she had been that it hadn't rained every day on her trip to Germany. She had even asked her dad if there had been a drought. Now, she had only been 11, mind you. Ren sighed apologetically. "I'm sorry. Really I am. I bet it sucks going from sun and surf to rain and rocky beaches," she said, taking the receipt and her new shoes. "Hey Autumn, I'm Renata. Ren for short." She internally flinched. The dreaded school question. How to answer honestly without sounding like a snob or giving anything away. "No, I actually go to a private school. I know, it sounds kinda snobbish, but it's a family thing." There, that was honest enough. Magic was genetic, after all.

Autumn sighed. "Oh. It would've been cool if you were going, though. Maybe I'll see you around town sometime." she smiled weakly, rather sad that she once again didn't know anyone she would be going to school with. Usually she would've interrogated until she got an answer. But Ren seemed honest enough to believe. "Must be hard not going to school with anyone from Forks, huh?" Autumn had never been to anything close to a private school. All she could comprehend was public.

Ren smiled apologetically. "Sorry. Yeah, I sort of wish I went to Forks High." Hell, I sort of wish I was normal, and not a magical freak of nature. But back to the subject at hand... "Oh, you'll definitely see me around. The school may be a boarding school, but I live down at the Quilliet rez, so I'm always home on the weekends." When Autumn mentioned not going to school with anyone from around here, she shrugged. "That's not entirely true. There's this one guy,Kareem," she said, trying not to sound like a totally lovesick dork as she talked, "He's from around here. He's part of the 'Tan-People-of-Forks-United Society.' We meet once a month and complain about all the pale people," she joked.
